'I'm told': Liverpool now need to pay more than they did for Luis Diaz to sign 'outstanding' talent - Romano

Liverpool might be among the clubs tracking young defender Goncalo Inacio but he won’t be coming to Anfield on the cheap.

Inacio is becoming one of the hottest properties in Europe it seems right now. Liverpool have been credited with having a big interest in the young defender. Further, both Tottenham and Arsenal are also thought to be keen on him.

Of course, the ‘outstanding‘ young defender is doing well in Lisbon. He’s started all bar one league games this season, and it looks like English clubs like what they see.

However, Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about Inacio and those Liverpool links, and he says that a deal only happens at a big price.

Goncalo Inacio to Liverpool only happens for £52m

Writing in his column for CaughtOffside, Romano said that Inacio to Liverpool – or anyone else – will only happen if a £52m release-clause is met.

“Liverpool are another club looking at centre-backs but so far no contacts have taken place with Bayer Leverkusen for Piero Hincapie from what I’m told. Hincapie has been strongly linked with Liverpool and other top clubs as he’s looked like a superb young talent for some time now, and he’s also not playing as often as he might have expected, so it’s normal to see new stories about the player.

“Liverpool have also been one of a number of teams linked with Goncalo Inacio, but the only way to sign him is to pay his €60m release clause to Sporting and no one has approached Sporting until now. Let’s see if that changes soon, but for now there is nothing advanced for Liverpool with either Hincapie or Inacio,” Romano said.

Expensive buy for Liverpool

Liverpool are not averse to spending on the right player. They’ve splashed out in the past when needed and won’t hesitate in the future you imagine.

However, Inacio is an expensive buy. His release-clause eclipses that of the £49.9m Liverpool spent to land Luis Diaz in the winter of 2022 and it would be a bit of a surprise to see them go for this, given Jurgen Klopp’s recent comments to the press on transfers.

But, you just never know. If the Reds are right in the title mix still and FSG feel Klopp can deliver, then a few January signings might be the way to go.

Certainly, Inacio seems a wanted man so this would look like quite the coup.
