Kylian Mbappe is going to be the talk of the transfer window for the next 12 months.
The Frenchman’s contract is up at the end of this season, and it’s unclear whether or not he is going to trigger the extension clause in his deal that will keep him at PSG until 2025.
Links to Real Madrid have been ongoing for years at this point, while interest from Liverpool has bubbled away in the background for a little while.
Indeed, Mbappe stated that he had talks with Liverpool before signing his new contract with PSG last year, and speaking the Squawka, Glen Johnson has claimed that the Reds would happily sign the ‘world class’ attacker if the opportunity were to present itself.

Johnson shared his verdict on the attacker.
“I can’t see Liverpool spending the kind of money it would take to bring Mbappe in. They’ve always brought in players strategically, using data, statistics and looking to the future and also often looking for a good deal and to be honest, they usually get it right. I just don’t think they’re the kind of club to go and break the bank to buy Mbappe. I hope they do! I just think it goes against what they are all about.”
“Being at PSG, he’s never really had to do that high press. Whether he’s capable of it and whether he actually wants to do it or not I don’t know, but they would still absolutely sign him if they could. If you want to play for Klopp, you absolutely have to be able to help the team and work hard, so I’m sure he would buy into that.”
Never say never
Liverpool signing Mbappe is unlikely it has to be said, but, at the same time, you can never say never in football.
The Reds may well have the cash to do this deal soon. After all, Mo Salah has been linked with a world-record transfer to Saudi Arabia as of late, while Liverpool did make a £111m bid for Moises Caicedo towards the end of summer.
The money could well be there for Liverpool to do this kind of deal, while Mbappe is said to be slightly intrigued by a move to Anfield.
Maybe, just maybe, this is one to keep an eye on.
