Robbie Earle has suggested that Liverpool have an attacking player who is reminding him of Roberto Firmino as the Reds prepare to tackle the next few weeks without Mohamed Salah.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are facing a huge test of their Premier League title credentials. The Reds will be without Mohamed Salah while he is away at AFCON 2023.
Salah leads the goalscoring charts amongst the Liverpool squad by some way. With that, the likes of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota will need to step up over the next few games.

Cody Gakpo compared with Liverpool hero Roberto Firmino
Admittedly, the Dutchman has been moved around the side this season, even featuring in midfield at times. And speaking on The 2 Robbies, Robbie Earle has suggested that he could see Gakpo being the answer for Liverpool in the middle of the front three.
“Diogo Jota’s such a clever little footballer, he’s going to be an important part,” he said.
“Gakpo is a different type of player, likes to knit the game in, he’s Bobby Firmino-esque, but what I’m thinking with Liverpool is I’m seeing different attacking options that they can go to down this stretch in the second half of the season.”
Reds will be delighted if they have found Brazilian’s replacement
Roberto Firmino was generally the least prolific of the front three during his time playing alongside Salah and Sadio Mane on Merseyside. But many will suggest that he was no less important than either player.
So it is huge praise to compare Gakpo with Firmino. And that perhaps adds to the pressure on Darwin Nunez.
Nunez is on a run of one goal in 14 games in all competitions. And while he brings so much to the side, Nunez needs to be doing more in front of goal.
So perhaps Gakpo could be the man to really rival the Uruguayan.
