‘I’m sad’: Sami Hyypia says he’s gutted about what’s happened to ‘magnificent’ Liverpool player now

Liverpool have managed to avoid a lot of the injury issues that other top clubs have had this season.

The likes of Newcastle, Tottenham and Arsenal have had their fair share of injuries this season, but Liverpool have got off lightly on that front.

However, sadly, there has been a bit of bad fortune at Anfield as of late as Joel Matip has now picked up an injury that has ended his season.

Speaking to Off The Ball, Liverpool legend, Sami Hyypia has been discussing Matip’s injury and he says that he’s really sad about the Cameroon international’s ACL issue, claiming that he was doing very well alongside Virgil van Dijk before this injury.

Hyypia gutted about Matip injury

The pundit shared his verdict on the ‘magnificent’ defender.

“Who do you think is Van Dijk’s best partner right now?” Hyypia was asked.

“I would say Konate, but I’m sad to see that he and Matip have had injury problems and Joe Gomez a few years back I was looking at Joe and he was really breaking through, but then he had injuries and a lack of confidence in his game, but he seems to have that back now, it’s a pity that Matip got injured now because he did very well alongside Virgil,” Hyypia said.

Devastating

Hyypia says he’s gutted about Matip’s injury and he’s not the only one.

Virgil van Dijk described this situation as devastating, and he isn’t wrong.

At the age of 32, an ACL injury can spell the end of a career, and with Matip’s contract up at the end of the season, he may well have played his final game for Liverpool.

Matip is a modern day Liverpool legend, and if this is it for the centre-back, it would be a very sad end to what has been a fantastic spell for a brilliant defender at Anfield.
