Jurgen Klopp is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
The German announced last month his decision to leave the Reds at the end of the season, and, of course, since then, all the chat has been around who will replace Klopp at Anfield.
Xabi Alonso is the name on everyone’s lips at the moment, and speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has stated that he believes Alonso will indeed be the man to get the job.
The journalist stated that he would be amazed if Alonso doesn’t get the Liverpool job at the end of the season, claiming that this almost feels inevitable and that he thinks it will work well if this move does happen.

Jones shared his verdict on the upcoming vacancy at Anfield and the ‘incredible’ manager.
“I’ll be amazed if he’s not the next Liverpool manager. I feel like it is a failproof announcement. I can’t see any Liverpool fan who would have an issue with Xabi Alonso replacing Jurgen Klopp at this moment in time. What if he does win the league with Bayer Leverkusen? Wouldn’t he want to go into the Champions League and defend his title? I don’t think he would, he’d go and play the Champions League with Liverpool. Xabi Alonso and Liverpool, it almost feels written that this will happen, and it will work,” Jones said.
Alonso is the best choice
Jones is right, Alonso to Liverpool does feel a bit inevitable, and, in our view, he’d be the best choice.
Not only is he working wonders in the Bundesliga at the moment, he’s a Liverpool legend in his own right from his playing days, so it should be easy enough for him to endear himself to the fanbase.
Of course, it’s not a foregone conclusion that Alonso gets this job, but it does feel as though he is in line to pick up where Klopp is leaving off.
