Tony Cascarino has shared what he absolutely loves about Harvey Elliott after claiming that the Liverpool youngster has been one of their players of the season.
Harvey Elliott may have mixed feelings about this campaign, with no Liverpool player making more appearances off the bench in the Premier League this season than the 21-year-old.
Of course, the key reason Elliott has not featured more is surely the fact that his best position is on the right of the front three – the position where Mohamed Salah has established himself as one of the Premier League greats.
But he reminded everyone of his quality at the weekend, with Elliott scoring a stunning fourth goal for Liverpool in their 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
The £4.3 million starlet now has four goals and nine assists in all competitions this season. So he is definitely knocking on the door for a lot more game-time in the years to come.
Tony Cascarino tips Harvey Elliott for key role under Arne Slot
Of course, Jurgen Klopp will soon be stepping aside. But speaking on The Game Football Podcast, Tony Cascarino believes that Elliott could establish himself as a key player under Arne Slot.
“Klopp has used him in slightly different positions, but generally, he loves that right side. He loves to come off that side, whether he cuts inside with the ball like he did with the goal yesterday. I think he’s been one of the standout figures for Liverpool this year, because he started the season in and out, and when he was called upon he’d come off the bench and he’d do something,” he said.

A lot of the other talk is about other youngsters, and Harvey Elliott doesn’t feel young, does he, even though he still is. I thought it was a really good afternoon for him. Do you know what I really love about him, he always wants the ball.
“He reminds me of Ray Houghton, who I played with, I’ve said that before. But he always wants it, you know you see that player who just goes ‘give me it’ all the time. And he’s not the biggest, but he’s fiery, he’s got a lot of energy, I just really like him. I’m hoping along the way he doesn’t become that squad player.”
What is so easy to forget about Liverpool youngster
Elliott’s versatility should help him while Salah remains at Liverpool, but he is definitely threatening to become such a key part of the side Slot builds on Merseyside.
It is definitely easy to forget that he only turned 21 just last month because he has been around for so long, making well over 100 appearances for the Reds despite previously going out on loan and spending a long time on the sidelines with that ankle injury he suffered in 2021.
He is incredibly unlucky to have not had more minutes this season, but he is doing everything he can to prove that he has a very bright future ahead.
