'I have dreamt of that': 'Extraordinary' manager has already admitted he wants to manage Liverpool one day

In a twist that nobody saw coming, Liverpool are now on the lookout for a new manager.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp has announced that he will be leaving the Reds at the end of the season, and a new gaffer will need to be installed this summer.

Of course, speculation is already rife around who will replace Klopp at Liverpool, and Xabi Alonso has emerged as a prime candidate for the role.

The Spaniard is, of course, a Liverpool legend, and his good work over in the Bundesliga certainly isn’t going unnoticed.

Interestingly, Alonso would probably be up for taking this job as well. After all, back in 2018 when speaking to Sky Sports, he admitted that he has actually dreamt of managing Liverpool in the future.

Alonso has dreamt about managing Liverpool

The Spaniard admitted that he wants to manage the Reds one day.

“Yes for sure, I have dreamt of that, but first I have to prove myself and prepare,” Alonso said.

“If I decide somewhere along the way to take my chances as a manager, my link, my commitment, my passion with Liverpool is there.”

Top choice

In our view, Alonso has to be the number one candidate to get this job.

The fans already love him, and he’s working wonders in the Bundesliga – there’s a reason Jose Mourinho has called him ‘extraordinary’.

Of course, there are huge shoes to fill at Anfield after Klopp’s departure, but given how well he’s doing at Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso could be the man to take up the mantle.

Liverpool need to get this appointment right if they are to continue moving in the right direction, and Alonso is one of the brightest young coaches out there right now.

Alonso is a superstar of a manager in the making, and he may be primed and ready for a move to Liverpool this summer.
