'I don’t want to': Jurgen Klopp makes claim about two Arsenal players right after Liverpool's defeat last night

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had something to say about Arsenal duo William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes after the defeat at Everton last night.

The Reds’ chance of winning the Premier League have taken a huge hit now.

Liverpool did look like third favourites for the title before the derby at Everton last night, but following the defeat, it is almost a guarantee that they will miss out.

Klopp was really frustrated with his side’s performance last night and rightly so. Liverpool were terrible, especially in the second half, and deserved nothing from the game.

In his press conference after the defeat last night, Klopp brought up Arsenal duo Saliba and Gabriel while answering a question.

Jurgen Klopp makes claim about Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba

Liverpool have looked nothing like their usual selves for a while now.

The Reds have won just two of their last five games in all competitions – one of which was against Atalanta in the second leg, which was as good as a defeat.

Crystal Palace‘s win at Anfield earlier this month should’ve acted like a reality check for the Reds, but their performance against Everton last night suggested otherwise.

Jurgen Klopp had to face the media after the defeat, and he wasn’t a happy man.

However, the German refused to make any excuses for his side’s performance at Goodison Park.

When a journalist asked him if fatigue was the reason behind Liverpool’s recent defeats, the Reds boss pointed at how Arsenal duo Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba had played the same amount of minutes as his players or more but have still done well.

He said, as per Liverpool’s official website: “There are different aspects, definitely. Players who played all the games are not that fresh, but that is for other teams the same. I don’t want to use that as an excuse, really – as long as the boys are fit, not injured, that helps.

“Let me say, Gabriel and Saliba played all the games for Arsenal. Did they play a little bit less than us? I don’t even know 100 per cent – but they played a lot of games as well.

“Coming back from injury obviously is then slightly different, because of the intensity – the game is not waiting for you. Up front it is a super-intense job to do, always high sprint, always go, go, go and that we cannot change [players] there is difficult.”

Comparing Gabriel and Saliba’s minutes this season to Liverpool players

Fatigue is normal at this stage of the season, but the best teams get over it and do the business.

Jurgen Klopp deserves credit for not making any excuses last night, but his comment about Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba is not wrong at all.

In the Premier League this season, the Frenchman has played every single minute – 3060 to be exact. Gabriel has played 2715 minutes, which is a bit less than Virgil van Dijk but more than every other Liverpool player.

Van Dijk aside, Arsenal have seven players who have played more minutes than everyone at Liverpool this season, but they are still at the top of the Premier League table at the moment.

Liverpool can only blame themselves for the position they are in right now.
