Liverpool signed a hatful of new midfielders over the summer, but their recruitment in that area may not be done yet.
Indeed, the Reds still don’t have that recognised number six to replace Fabinho in their squad, and with the January transfer window just around the corner, the Reds are being linked with a number of potential new additions.
One player who has been linked with a move to Anfield is Joao Palhinha, but according to Neil Jones, speaking on The Redmen TV, this isn’t a deal that is likely to go through in January.

Jones shared his verdict on the £17m man.
“No, I don’t think they’ll sign him. They would’ve tried to sign him in the summer if they wanted to he was available clearly. He’s 28. They signed a 30 year old and they’re not going to sign a 28-year-old for three times that figure. No, I don’t think Liverpool will be signing him,” Jones said.
Good enough
Palhinha’s age profile isn’t ideal, but 28 isn’t exactly over the hill, is it?
The Portuguese international doesn’t have tons of miles on the clock, and he could easily fill this role for Liverpool for half a decade.
There aren’t many better defensive midfielders than Palhinha around right now, and certainly not many who are available on the market, so if this opportunity does present itself to Liverpool, they may be wise to go and take it.
Palhinha is a fantastic player, and while he isn’t a young up and comer in the same way Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravernberch are, the old adage rings true, age is just a number.
Palhinha wouldn’t be a cheap option, but if Liverpool do want to shore up that midfield, he’s the player they should be going after.
