The idea of Trent Alexander-Arnold playing in the midfield for Liverpool has been discussed for years now.
The full-back has all of the creative abilities necessary to be an incredible playmaker in the middle of the park, but, for the most part, he’s been used down the right side by Jurgen Klopp.
However, according to Jose Enrique, speaking to Squawka, the player himself now wants a change.
The pundit reckons that Alexander-Arnold is getting fed up of playing at right-back, claiming that he’d much rather be in the midfield due to the fact it would allow him to control the game more and not have as much defensive responsibility.

Enrique shared his verdict on the 25-year-old.
“I don’t think Trent wants to play as right back anymore. He loves to play more in the middle role, because he has more control of the game, he has more vision, he can play left, right, and obviously the ability is there. He’s world class with the ball at his feet, there’s no doubt about that. But I think it’s a little bit different because the right side of Liverpool is very exposed because of it,” Enrique said.
Wouldn’t blame him
We don’t know what Alexander-Arnold wants to do in the future, but we wouldn’t blame him at all if he wanted to play in midfield.
There’s this constant discussion about his defensive abilities when he plays at right-back, and that discussion would completely stop if he were to be playing higher up.
The best playmakers in the world are always used in midfield, so why should Alexander-Arnold be any different?
Whether or not Jurgen Klopp makes this change remains to be seen, but it’s certainly something to ponder for the German in the coming months.
