121 Cody Gakpo has been a Liverpool player for just over a year now, and to say he’s had a successful 12 months would be an understatement.
He played a key role in a 7-0 win against Manchester United this time last year, and now, he has the Reds firing at the top of the league and he’s just won his first piece of silverware with the club.
Gakpo has adapted brilliantly to life on Merseyside, but speaking to Sky Sports, Gakpo says that he has been shocked by one thing about the Reds.
Indeed, Gakpo says that while he knew Liverpool’s fans were amazing, he didn’t quite comprehend just how amazing the Liverpool fanbase actually are until he came to play for the club.

The Dutchman shared his verdict on the support and how they shocked him when he arrived.
“I didn’t know it was that special,” Gakpo.
“You know it’s a big club with special history and really special fans but to really experience that is way more special than you can ever think of.”

We can absolutely understand why Gakpo was shocked by the Liverpool fanbase.
Everyone knows just how amazing the Reds’ fans are, but there’s a huge difference between hearing it on TV and being in the stadium.
There’s just something special about Anfield during a big game that can’t really be replicated anywhere else, and while Gakpo has played in front of huge crowds in big matches elsewhere, nothing is quite like playing in front of the Anfield crowd.
