Real Madrid made some serious moves in the summer transfer window.
Los Blancos spent massive money to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, while they also brought in a young superstar in the shape of Arda Guler, while also signing Joselu to bolster their frontline.
However, before any of these deals happened, the Spanish giants almost signed one of the Premier League’s biggest stars.
Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, Real Madrid actually tried to sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool before moving on the likes of Bellingham and Joselu.

Romano shared what he knows about the £70m man.
“But on Darwin I can tell you that last summer in June, Real Madrid considered a possible move for Darwin Nunez. This is a story form early June from when Real Madrid made some calls to understand the situation of Darwin Nunez. They tried to explore this move and it was discussed on both the player and club side with Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool board decided to keep the player. Before signing Bellingham and before signing Joselu, Real Madrid considered a move for Darwin Nunez last summer,” Romano said.
Interesting
It is interesting that Real Madrid thought about signing Nunez this summer, because his stock wasn’t exactly at its highest.
If we’re being harsh, Nunez’s debut season at Liverpool wasn’t all that impressive as he struggled for form and goals.
However, much like many Liverpool fans, Madrid clearly saw something in the player, but, understandably, Liverpool weren’t so keen to sell.
Nunez would’ve been interesting to watch in this Madrid team alongside the likes of Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Jr, but, to be honest, we’re glad he’s stayed in the Premier League because he is one of the most entertaining footballers around right now.
