Garth Crooks believes Liverpool No.62 Caoimhin Kelleher deserves a more significant role as a result of his fine displays for the Reds.
The 65-year-old made the comments when writing his Team of the Week for BBC Sport.
So, what did Garth Crooks say about Caoimhin Kelleher at Liverpool? Let’s take a look…
Garth Crooks feels Caoimhin Kelleher deserves better
Well, the Republic of Ireland international played a crucial role in a final once again as Liverpool recorded a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
Kelleher – Liverpool’s domestic cup goalkeeper – has previously shone as Liverpool defeated Chelsea in the 2021/22 Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals as well.
Now, Crooks has claimed that the Irishman deserves a better role.
The BBC Sport pundit wrote: “Liverpool’s number two goalkeeper doesn’t seem to care what the occasion is, it seems you can always depend on the Republic of Ireland international. Of all the injuries sustained by Liverpool the team have missed Alisson the least. Kelleher’s performance have been nothing short of outstanding as was his form in the EFL Cup final.
“This is a man who remains incredibly calm often in extraordinary circumstances and tends to do all his talking between the sticks. Winning trophies with Liverpool as their number two is all very well but I can’t help feeling there comes a time when you performances deserve top billing – even if it means leaving Anfield.”

Liverpool happy to let Caoimhin Kelleher spread his wings
It seems as if Liverpool know Kelleher is too good to be a mere No.2 behind Alisson.
According to James Pearce of The Athletic, Liverpool would be open to selling the Cork-born glovesman for a fee of £30m, with many aware that he needs to move on and be the main man at some point.

Hopefully, the 25-year-old gets to become No.1 somewhere this summer, if that is what he wants, of course.
