Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed that he’s a bit ‘afraid’ of Darwin Nunez’s potential.

The Reds have had a fine start to the new season, and Nunez has been one of their best players. He has looked really dangerous so far and has even impressed Luiz Suarez. Klopp is now really excited about his potential as a Liverpool player.

Jurgen Klopp says he’s scared of Liverpool star Darwin Nunez’s potential

Liverpool signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a club-record £85 million last year (Sky Sports).

The 24-year-old had a difficult debut campaign in the Premier League. He missed a ton of chances and that made him one of the club’s most criticised players.

This season, however, Nunez looks settled. He has been in fine form, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in just seven starts. That is an incredible return.

Jurgen Klopp was asked about Nunez in his press conference yesterday, and the Liverpool boss claimed he’s a bit ‘afraid’ about how much better his number nine can be.

He said, as per the Daily Mail: “I don’t speak Spanish and he didn’t speak English, but his English is now much better. Now you see him around the building and he is in a very good moment.

“I am a bit afraid of the highs he could reach, there is so much there.

“Last year, especially when things did not go particularly well, it was super important that everything was set up perfectly and we needed a No 9 who defended perfectly (from the front) in a way Darwin was not able to do then. Now, he can.

“The speed, the finishing skills, the desire he has… when he’s fit he is really fit so he can go and go again. You just don’t know where he will end up. He came in for really big money. It shows again that players need time, we forget that. But Darwin is fully here now and it’s different.”

Nunez can be a superstar for Liverpool

In all likelihood, this season feels like Mohamed Salah‘s last at Liverpool. Many people expect him to move to Saudi Arabia next summer.

If that happens, Liverpool will need someone else to fill the superstar void Salah will leave, and we think Nunez could be that man.

We’re not saying the Uruguayan is on Salah’s level – he’s not and it’s not even close. However, he has everything in his game to score a ton of goals, and we’re sure he’ll be even better next season than he is now.

If Nunez continues to develop as well as he has, he will score more goals than most other strikers in the Premier League.
