Jurgen Klopp looked on in anguish as his Liverpool team were beaten in the final minutes by Manchester United today.
Amad Diallo’s dramatic late winner ensured it was a day to remember for the home side and Erik ten Hag, while for Klopp, it stopped his side’s hopes of a historic quadruple.
Of course, being part of a game that ends 4-3 is always entertaining, even if you are on the losing side.
And speaking after the game to the BBC, Liverpool boss Klopp admitted that United did something he really liked.
Jurgen Klopp praises Manchester United
Speaking about United’s comeback win, the Liverpool boss admitted he had huge respect for the way Ten Hag’s side took risks to win.
“We did not have a good start but we adapted really well and played a top game. At 2-1 up we had so many chances to kill the game off, we were in a rush in some moments and the rest is already history. We were nearly there in extra time and in the end we lose the game. I cannot ask the boys for more,” Klopp said.

Liverpool should have won it
Klopp hints at it here in his comments but there were so many times Liverpool went through and made the wrong decision. In the end, it cost them.
The Liverpool boss was furious with Cody Gakpo at one point for being guilty. And it wasn’t just Gakpo either, as a number of Reds players made bad calls.
In the end, it proved massive and United’s winner really caught Liverpool off guard.
A quadruple was always going to be hard to do for Klopp and his team. But this one was there for the taking and looking back, the German will be annoyed at his team.
