Liverpool had a number of star performers yesterday as they ground out a 1-1 draw with title rivals Manchester City.
The Reds played their part in a hugely entertaining game and in fairness to them, could have won it in the second half.
A number of their top players delivered on the day. Virgil van Dijk was brilliant at the back, while in midfield, the likes of Endo and Mac Allister also produced big performances.
However, speaking to the official Liverpool Podcast, former Red Phil Thompson had a special mention for Harvey Elliott. The 20-year-old has played a lot recently but was selected by Jurgen Klopp again.
And Thompson was impressed.
Harvey Elliott impresses for Liverpool v Man City
Lauding the young midfielder’s performance, Thompson admitted he was both delighted and surprised to see Elliott perform as he did.
“He put himself about today with some great blocks to win the ball in that middle area. But Harvey’s own – don’t forget he’s the one who played all those minutes in the Carabao Cup and then he’s playing again – I thought he wouldn’t play today but yet Jurgen’s gone to him all the time. He’s trusted him again and he must have been delighted. He could easily have gone with Cody. I thought Harvey was terrific. His energy levels, his creativity, coming in, dipping his shoulder into his left foot and bending it in. Harvey was terrific,” Thompson said.

It feels like Harvey Elliott has been at Liverpool for absolute ages now and it’s quite remarkable that he is still just 20.
This season has been a real turning point for him though in some aspects and he’s been a player who, as Thompson says, Klopp trusts.
In fairness to Klopp, he is like that with most of his squad and that’s partly why he gets so much out of the players at his disposal.
Elliott has been superb and is actually pushing for a place in the England squad now. And if he does manage to snatch a place on the plane to Germany, nobody can argue it’s not deserved.
