Gary Neville was full of criticism for Darwin Nunez after the Liverpool forward blew a great opportunity late on as the Reds searched for an equaliser at Arsenal on Sunday.
Darwin Nunez was initially left on the bench at the Emirates. But it was no surprise that the Uruguayan came on just after half-time with Liverpool struggling against Mikel Arteta’s side.
The Reds were actually level when Nunez was introduced. However, a mistake between Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker put the home side back in front. And that put the pressure on the visitors’ attackers to try and make something happen.
Gary Neville baffled by Darwin Nunez as Liverpool striker misses chance against Arsenal
Nunez ended up creating an opening with some excellent work on the edge of the Arsenal box, with the 24-year-old beating Kai Havertz.

And it is safe to say that Gary Neville – who was speaking on Sky Sports (broadcast on 4/2; 18:14) – was not impressed by the Liverpool striker’s decision-making.
“He wants shouting at, I nearly said something else then. He does well initially. Runs past Havertz. He’s got to put that across goal, look at where Jota is. It’s just wild,” he said.
Poor decisions sum up Uruguayan’s spell on Merseyside
It was a moment which encapsulates much of Nunez’s time at Liverpool. There is so much quality in his game. It is impossible to not want him to do well. But when the crucial moment comes, and Nunez is in front of goal, he is not clinical enough.
Nunez has been excellent for much of this season. And he does appear to be on his way towards silencing his doubters.
However, Liverpool are going for the title. Arsenal were much better than them on Sunday. So when the opportunities came, the Reds could not afford to make poor decisions.
On that occasion, Nunez could have hardly made a worse call.
