‘He told him’: Pundit shares what Diogo Jota said to Michael Edwards when he signed for Liverpool

Diogo Jota has turned out to be one of the best signings in Liverpool’s recent history.

The £45m man has proven to be an absolute bargain since arriving at Anfield from Wolves back in 2020.

Jota has stepped up in the big moments for the Reds time and time again, and he was at it again at the weekend with two great goals against Bournemouth.

Speaking about Jota’s performance on Premier League Productions, Tim Sherwood has been full of praise for the attacker.

Sherwood spoke about Jota’s initial arrival at Liverpool, and he says that he actually spoke to Michael Edwards about the striker, and he says that the forward told Edwards that he wanted to be the main man at Liverpool when he arrived.

Jota didn’t come to be a backup

Sherwood shared what he heard from Michael Edwards about Jota.

“Jota has been an unbelievable signing for them, I remember speaking to Michael Edwards about him and he spoke to Jota to bring him from Wolves and he told him that I’m not playing second-fiddle, he wanted to be the main man and he’s turning into that now,” Sherwood said.

Living up to his billing

Jota hasn’t quite been able to establish himself as the first name on the teamsheet at Liverpool since arriving, but he’s well on his way to becoming a key player now.

Indeed, while Mo Salah has long been Liverpool’s most important attacking player, Jota is now showing that he can step up to the plate when Salah isn’t around.

Jota is proving his worth to this team, and if he carries on playing in this way, he may well become undroppable from Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI.

Jota has proven to be a fantastic signing for the Reds, and Liverpool are certainly lucky to have him.
