Trent Alexander-Arnold may be one of the most underappreciated footballers in the country.
The Liverpool ace is supposedly considered the best player in the world in some circles in South America, but, for some reason, the British footballing media don’t quite appreciate what a superstar we have on our hands here.
Technically, there may not be a better player on the planet than Alexander-Arnold right now, but, for some reason, we’re constantly told about his lack of defensive ability rather than being left bewildered by what he can actually do with a football.
Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Stewart Downing has gone out to bat for Alexander-Arnold, claiming that he’s an unbelievable player who doesn’t get the appreciation he deserves.

Downing shared his verdict on the defender.
“Some of his deliveries, you have to let that go a bit. He’s an unbelievable player isn’t he. He’s like De Bruyne in that position on the inside right, he can pick people out, he’s got everything, the whip, the drive, he’s got everything, he should be appreciated more I think because the first thing they do is jump on him saying he can’t defend,” Downing said.
Incredible
It’s hard not to run out of superlatives when you’re speaking about Alexander-Arnold.
The 25-year-old literally has it all from a technical sense, his vision, passing and ball-striking abilities are all second-to-none, and, to be honest, we’re fed up of hearing about his defensive issues.
Yes, he could be better at the back, but what he brings to the team in an attacking sense massively outweighs any negatives attached to his defensive ability.
We should appreciate how lucky we are to have a player this talented in the Premier League and hail him for the great player he is rather than constantly detracting from the Liverpool star.
