Virgil van Dijk has issued his verdict on the performance of Caoimhin Kelleher as Liverpool clinched the Carabao Cup with a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley.
Caoimhin Kelleher is no stranger to being the Reds’ hero in a cup final. Of course, he may have to share the honour this time around with Virgil van Dijk, with the Dutchman scoring the only goal of the game towards the end of extra time with a towering header befitting of his performance.
But the Republic of Ireland international’s display was just as important for Jurgen Klopp’s side. He made a number of crucial interventions. Kelleher was lauded for an unbelievable save from Cole Palmer during the first-half. And he continued to step up whenever called upon.
Virgil van Dijk lauds Caoimhin Kelleher after Liverpool win Carabao Cup
Kelleher was rightly lauded by many after his heroics at Wembley. And it seems that many of his teammates were just as impressed by the 25-year-old.

“I’m probably one of his biggest fans. I think I’ve always said he’s world-class. And he stepped up today again. It’s good to see. Good boy, good goalkeeper. And that’s what we need at a club like Liverpool,” he said.
Reds have a special talent
It is bizarre to say, but Liverpool losing Alisson Becker to injury just is not the end of the world. The Brazilian is one of the best in the world in his position. And yet, Kelleher rarely lets the team down when he does get the chance to play.
He is definitely good enough to play more at the very highest level. And Liverpool will hope that they can hold onto him for as long as possible.
Replacing Alisson is going to be a huge task for the Reds one day. However, it is going to be so much easier if they keep Kelleher at Anfield.
