Liverpool made a number of fantastic signings in the summer transfer window.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch look to have been inspired additions, while Alexis Mac Allister was the first signing of the summer and it’s not taken him long to get to grips with life at Anfield.
The Argentine has been as solid as he’s ever been at Liverpool this season, but speaking on Off The Ball, John Giles has picked out one flaw in Mac Allister’s game.
Indeed, according to Giles, Mac Allister appears to be too quiet on the pitch, claiming that the £35m man isn’t enough of a leader in that midfield.

Giles shared his verdict on Mac Allister.
“I think they’re missing what we would call the schemer or the general in midfield. They have some good players, Mac Allister is a very good player, but when I see him play he’s very quiet. He does what he does well but he doesn’t seem to inspire people around him to get them going and get them at it. They don’t have anyone in the midfield who can get a grip of it as a captain,” Giles said.
Early days
Giles is right, Mac Allister doesn’t seem like too much of a leader at the moment, but it’s still early days yet.
Indeed, as easy as it is to get on Mac Allister’s back for his lack of leadership in midfield, we mustn’t forget that he’s only been at Liverpool for a few months at this point.
Whenever you go into a new workplace, it can take you some time to come out of your shell, and that may just be the same case with Mac Allister here.
He’s only 24 years old too, and given that this is his first season at a top club, we can’t blame him if he’s not the most vocal on the pitch.
Perhaps Mac Allister will become more vocal as time goes on.
