‘He’s very good’: Ivan Toney says 5 ft 10 Liverpool player is actually the best in the PL at heading

Ivan Toney has, interestingly, named Diogo Jota as the best header of a ball in the Premier League.

The Premier League is packed full of aerial threats. The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Gabriel Magalhaes, Chris Wood and Scott McTominay are all absolutely incredible when the ball is in the air.

However, speaking to Stadium Astro on TikTok, Toney has stated that Jota is actually the best in the league when it comes to heading the ball.

Indeed, Toney says that the 5 ft 10 Liverpool star is actually the best header of a ball in the league.

Diogo Jota the best in the air

Toney spoke about the Liverpool star.

“Heading ability, I’d say Jota for Liverpool, yeah, he’s very good at heading,” Toney said.

Underrated

It may sound strange to say this about a player who stands at just 5 ft 10, but Jota is really good in the air.

In fact, his aerial ability is actually very underrated.

Jota scored the joint-most headers of any player in the Premier League back in the 2021/22 season, and he does have a number of key attributes in this regard.

Jota has immense neck strength, while he also has a very good leap for a player of his height.

But most importantly, Jota has the intelligence to anticipate where a cross will be delivered, while he’s also an expert at escaping his marker and stealing in at the back post or the front post to nod home.

Toney himself is very good in the air, and the fact that he’s named Jota as the best header of the ball in the Premier League is serious praise.

Unfortunately, Jota’s season may be over as he’s currently sidelined with a serious injury, but his impact during the early parts of 2024 have played a massive part in the Reds’ current push for the Premier League title.
