Yes, they’ve been fantastic in certain games this season, but there’s no real steel in the middle of the park as Alexis Mac Allister continues to fill in as something of a makeshift number six.
Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Owen Hargreaves has noted that Liverpool do need a more brutish midfielder in the middle of the park, claiming that Fulham’s Joao Palhinha could be just what the doctor ordered at Anfield, claiming that they could win the league if they had the Portuguese star in the side.

Hargreaves spoke about the £17m man.
“I think they are missing one player and that’s a defensive midfield player. I think if Palhinha plays for Liverpool, then they can win the league. He is that good,” Hargreaves said.

Hargreaves is spot on, Palhinha would be perfect for Liverpool, and he might just be available.
He wanted to leave for Bayern Munich in the summer, and while that move didn’t go ahead, the midfielder could still be on the market in January.
Yes, he did sign a new contract at Fulham a few weeks ago, but Moises Caicedo did the same last winter before ultimately moving to Chelsea in the next transfer window.
Palhinha is a top class talent who belongs at a big club one day, and there is a Palhinha-shaped hole in Liverpool’s squad right now for him to go and fill.
Perhaps this is one to keep an eye on.
