'He's so good': Pundit says 27-year-old Liverpool player is actually so underrated after win at Brentford

Steve Nicol has named the Liverpool player he believes is so underrated after watching their emphatic 4-1 win over Brentford on Saturday.

It was a day of mixed emotions for the Reds at the Gtech Community Stadium. Jurgen Klopp’s side secured another big win in the Premier League title race. But the three points came at a price.

Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez all came off before the second-half, with Jota having to be stretchered off just before the break against the Bees.

Jota has scored six goals and contributed four assists in all competitions since Boxing Day. And it was the Portuguese who set up Nunez for the opening goal on Saturday.

And speaking to ESPN, Steve Nicol outlined what a blow it is for Liverpool to have Jota come off after his recent run of form.

“The only good thing is that Mo Salah is back. It would have been a whole different answer to the question had Mo Salah not been back fit today, because Jota’s so underrated. So underrated,” he said.

“He’s so good in the air for such a small guy. He gets everybody going, he gets the crowd going, he gets the rest of the team going. He’s clever. He’s got a great football brain. And most of all, he scores goal. So yeah, he’ll be a big miss.”

Mohamed Salah’s return is well-timed

Liverpool will be desperately hoping that Jota is not out for a long time. The likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo did score for the visitors on Saturday. But there are few forwards in the Premier League who have been in better form recently than Jota.

He did brilliantly to cover for Salah while the forward was away on international duty. Liverpool remain at the Premier League summit and now have their talisman back.

But Jota could arguably play for any team in the world right now. So Klopp will be keeping everything crossed that his injury is not as serious as it potentially looked.

Clearly, it is going to be an anxious wait for more information.
