Jarell Quansah has had a huge season for Liverpool, and he may have to face his biggest job to date on Sunday.
Indeed, after Ibrahima Konate went down with an injury against Sparta Prague on Thursday, Quansah may have to start against Manchester City at the weekend.
This will be a daunting task for the defender, but Ray Houghton has every confidence in the 21-year-old to excel in the big moments, particularly in possession.
Indeed, speaking on the Official Liverpool Podcast, Houghton has backed Quansah, stating that he really likes the defender, going as far as to say that he thinks he’s Liverpool’s best player in possession at the moment alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Houghton shared his verdict on the defender.
“I like Quansah as well though. I think he’s a fabulous young talent, he’s so cool. He’s great on the ball. He’s probably Liverpool’s best player in possession at the moment, I’d even go with Virgil on that, but he never looks flustered, he’s so assured, he opens his body up, he always has his head up, plays the right pass, he wants to get on the ball all the time,” Houghton said.
Tough task
Quansah is fantastic on the ball, it has to be said, but he’ll have to be so much more than that if he’s going to do a job against City at the weekend.
Indeed, it’s all well and good being a ball-player, but how Quansah copes when he has Erling Haaland running at him at full speed is what matters.
Quansah is a fantastic player, and he’s barely put a foot wrong this season, but whether or not he’s up to the task of playing against City in the biggest game of the season this weekend remains to be seen.
