Chris Sutton has been discussing who might replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and it’s no surprise he brought Ange Postecoglou into the conversation.
Sutton is a known advocate of Postecoglou having supported him while in charge of Celtic and he sung the Aussie’s praises on more than one occasion this season.
Of course, Liverpool are looking for a new manager after Jurgen Klopp decided he was walking away from the job in the summer.
And while the likes of Xabi Alonso and Roberto de Zerbi have been linked with the job, Sutton believes the ‘clout’ of Ange Postecoglou should see him mentioned.

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast, Sutton shared his logic on Liverpool going for the Tottenham boss.
“You touched on Alonso. I agree with you on Alonso. He’s still a rookie manager as such and would it be the right time and does he need a longer apprenticeship? I would suspect that he does. Steven Gerrard’s name comes up because of his connection but I think Aston Villa has done him in. But you know, Ange Postecoglou would fit the style of football. He’s won things. And he’s got a bit of clout and they’ll need someone with a bit of clout to handle the situation,” Sutton said.
No chance
You never know in football, but surely this one won’t happen, not after just a year in charge for Ange?
Sutton would love it if he did go to Liverpool and you can see what Sutton is saying about the personality and the fit for the job.
However, Tottenham just won’t be letting him go and you’d like to think the Aussie has some loyalty as well towards Spurs, who have given him his chance in the English game.
This one won’t happen. As Ian Ladyman says in reply to Sutton on the pod, he’d ‘eat his hat’ if it did.
