TalkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy believes Liverpool managerial target Xabi Alonso is different to Jurgen Klopp in terms of calmness.
The Reds’ managerial situation will be in the news every day until the summer. Everyone’s curious to know who will succeed Klopp at Liverpool, and Alonso’s name is making the most noise.

Jurgen Klopp shocked the world last week by announcing he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.
The German is the biggest reason why Liverpool are where they are today. He is the man who won them their first league title in three decades and everyone associated with the club loves him.
Since Klopp’s announcement, there has been a lot of speculation over who his successor will be.
Xabi Alonso is the name on everyone’s mind, and Danny Murphy has backed the Bayer Leverkusen boss to be the next Liverpool manager.
He also claimed that Alonso is a bit different to Klopp if you’re talking about the two managers’ calmness on the touchline and in the media.
Murphy said on talkSPORT: “The reason I’ve said Alonso all along, really, is, obviously he gets the fans and the club, and that’s a start.
“He plays good football – Leverkusen play good football. Yeah, it’s a different style, three at the back and a bit more possession-based, but it’s quite dynamic and he can be more dynamic with better players.
“He’s got wonderful appeal, I would imagine, to signing players. I mean who wouldn’t want to play for someone like Alonso – charismatic, he’s different than Klopp in terms of he’s a bit more calmer, he seems that way anyway. That might evolve as time goes by and the pressure builds.
“He’s worked under Guardiola, he’s worked under Ancelotti, he’s worked under some unbelievable managers. And, he’s a good coach apparently. He’s a coach, now other people don’t necessarily do the coaching.
“So, there’s a lot of boxes ticked, but there’s no candidate anybody’s giving me or talking about to me that you would say you could go in there and be 100% confident or even 90% confident that they’re going to be able to stay at that level and keep Liverpool at that level because of what Klopp has done.”

It doesn’t matter which manager Liverpool will end up appointing – they’ll have massive shoes to fill.
Xabi Alonso really is a good option. He knows the club well, will have the fans’ support, plays a good brand of football and is doing a remarkable job at Bayer Leverkusen.
We really think he will be a success at Liverpool if he’s given time, but expecting anyone to just come in and do what Klopp has done over the years is an impossible task.
It will be interesting to see who Liverpool will go after in the coming months.
