‘He’s beat Pep’: Jamie Carragher suggests 50-year-old manager would be really good for Liverpool

Liverpool look like they may have found their next manager in the shape of Arne Slot.

The Feyenoord boss is said to be keen on the job, and the Reds are locked in talks with the Dutch club about a compensation package.

All signs point towards Slot getting this job, and, as you can imagine, there have been mixed reactions to this news.

Speaking on Stick to Football, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Liverpool’s search for a new manager, and he’s suggested that Thomas Tuchel would’ve been a good choice for the Reds due to his track record.

Jamie Carragher backs Thomas Tuchel for Liverpool

Carragher spoke about Tuchel potentially coming to Anfield.

“Liverpool are always going to be data-driven, and the only manager who is out there who is proper and you go ‘oof’ is Tuchel, but I don’t think Liverpool would go for that sort of manager with how they work behind-the-scenes,” Carragher said.

“Going back to Tuchel. I just think he’s beat Pep. You see a guy on the sideline as a Liverpool supporter and you think he can go up against them. If he gets to the final he’ll have been in three of the last six Champions League finals. He has something about him. My hope is with the people at Liverpool is don’t ever forget how big the connection has to be with the support that ‘he’s our man, he can go against Pep or whoever the Man United manager is.’ Not just a yes man behind the scenes.”

Thomas Tuchel is the best manager available

Liverpool aren’t looking for a new manager at a time when the market is flush with top-class options, but Tuchel may be the best manager available at the moment.

His CV stacks up against anyone else in Europe, he’s a Champions League winner, he’s a disrupter and he’s proven himself everywhere he’s ever been.

Of course, the end of his spell at Chelsea wasn’t ideal, but what’s happened since at Stamford Bridge would suggest that Tuchel wasn’t entirely at fault for that.

It doesn’t look like it will be Tuchel, but perhaps he would be the best option for the Reds.
