Liverpool may need a new midfielder in the January transfer window.
With all due respect, Wataru Endo may not be the long-term answer as the Reds’ number six, and a new holding midfielder could be needed next month.
The Reds have been linked with a number of new options heading into the winter, and speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Don Hutchison has suggested another option.
Indeed, according to the pundit, RB Leipzig’s Xaver Schlager would be a fantastic option for Liverpool.

The pundit shared his verdict on the £10m man and a potential move to Anfield.
“Liverpool can’t win the league in my opinion if they don’t sign a specialised number six. Palhinha at Fulham, I think he’s amazing. There’s a guy at Leipzig called Xaver Schlager, an Austrian guy, he’s amazing and very disciplined in his position,” Hutchison said.
Good option
Schlager could be a fantastic option for Liverpool.
New signings from the Bundesliga have proven to be fantastic for the Reds in recent times.
Dominik Szoboszlai was, of course, Schlager’s teammate at Leipzig, while Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch have both proven to be solid additions from Germany.
With Jorg Schmadtke and Jurgen Klopp both playing key roles in the Reds’ recruitment at the moment, the Bundesliga market could well be something Liverpool look at once again next month.
Of course, Schlager hasn’t been named as an actual target for Liverpool, this is just a suggestion from a pundit, but we wouldn’t be shocked at all if Schlager was indeed on the Reds’ shortlist.
Liverpool brought in a number of new midfielders in the summer, but a new number six could be the order of the day when the January window opens.
Schlager could be a player to keep an eye on this winter.
