Ryan Gravenberch has been shining in Europe for Liverpool this season
Liverpool dropped into the Europa League this season, and while it’s disappointing for the Reds not to be playing Champions League football, this competition has led to plenty of opportunities for different players.
The likes of Jarrell Quansah and Luke Chambers have been given opportunities to shine in Europe this season, while Ryan Gravenberch has also been able to strut his stuff in these midweek games.
Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Owen Hargreaves has reserved some special praise for Gravenberch, stating that he has played amazingly in the Europa League and that he thinks he’ll now get plenty of chances domestically off the back of his European performances.

Hargreaves was full of praise for the Dutchman.
“I think teams dismiss the Europa League sometimes. Actually, it’s a great opportunity to get these young players some opportunities and reps. That’s where he’s actually played amazing, and because he’s played well there he’s got his chance in the Premier League. He reminds me, and Liverpool fans won’t like this, he’s Pogba-esque. I think he needs to specialise in a position, but so far I love watching him, I’m amazed he didn’t play more for Bayern,’ Hargreaves said.
Perfect platform
The Europa League has really helped Gravenberch get to grips with life at Anfield this season.
It isn’t the jump into the deep end that high-end Premier League games can be, but it is a competitive environment where the youngster is able to show his ability to the fans and Jurgen Klopp, ultimately settling into the squad and now staking a claim for first-team football in the league.
If Liverpool had finished in the top four last season, perhaps Gravenberch wouldn’t have been able to bed in with such ease, and, in a way, Europa League football may be something of a blessing in disguise in that sense.
