Liverpool face Ajax in a must-win Champions League clash this week and Danny Murphy has suggested Klopp might drop Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Writing for the Daily Mail this weekend, the former Liverpool and England midfielder has suggested that Trent could be taken out of the firing line somewhat, with Joe Gomez used in a right-back position to give the Reds more defensive stability.
Murphy believes that Gomez being a ‘natural one on one defender’ could encourage Klopp to play him ahead of Trent at right-back. As we all know, Alexander-Arnold has been suffering from a lack of form in recent weeks and was even labelled as being ‘atrocious‘ for his defending in the 2-2 draw with Fulham.

But the Reds boss admitted after the hammering in Naples that something needed to change and he would work to find out what. It could be, then, that a tactical switch of sorts is coming this week.
Certainly, Alexander-Arnold could have few complaints if he is dropped to the bench for a game or two. But he’s not the only Liverpool player struggling, it is worth noting.
TBR’s View: Gomez Lacks Attacking Intent But There Are Plus Points
Murphy isn’t too far off with his comments here and we’ve seen Joe Gomez playing at right-back before. And with Trent struggling and under pressure, it might be a good time to make that change.
Of course, in doing so, you’d be losing the brilliant attacking football provided by ‘TAA’. But on the flipside, you do get the better defensive work of Gomez.
Klopp faces some big calls in the coming weeks and while injuries have played a big part in the drop, it’s important for the German coach to get his Reds side firing once again.
