Ben Foster has shared the widely-held view of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah he probably disagrees with, as he named Virgil van Dijk in his Premier League team of the season so far.
Mohamed Salah has unquestionably been one of the best players in the division this season. The Egyptian is the joint top goalscorer in the Premier League, with 14 goals. And it is unquestionably a massive blow for the Reds to lose Salah while he is away on international duty.
The 31-year-old is potentially playing almost as well as he ever has. And with that, some may be expecting Jurgen Klopp’s side’s title challenge to be derailed slightly over the next few weeks.
Ben Foster disagrees with what many think about Liverpool star Mohamed Salah
But speaking on his YouTube channel, Ben Foster suggested that there are two players within the Liverpool squad who are, at least, as important as Salah to their fortunes, as he lauded Virgil van Dijk for his performances this season.

For me, everybody says Mo Salah is the most important player for Liverpool. And I kind of disagree with that, because I think for me, you miss a van Dijk or you miss an Alisson, either of them two are out of the team, then Liverpool aren’t the same. I think the drop-off is huge,” he said.
Reds heading into the unknown
In some ways, Liverpool are heading into the unknown over the next few weeks. Salah has featured in every single Premier League game so far this season.
The encouraging news is that the Reds have won all four league games when they have been without either van Dijk or Alisson Becker.
Foster believes that Alisson is the best goalkeeper in the world. Meanwhile, van Dijk does not appear to have a weakness in his game. And he is certainly looking as though he is back to something like his best.
It is too soon this season to suggest that losing Salah would be less impactful than losing Alisson or van Dijk. But there is no question that you could definitely make a case for any of the trio being the most influential.
