Liverpool are flying high at the top of the Premier League right now.
The Reds have been utterly brilliant so far this season. They’re five points clear at the top of the league, they have lost just one game so far, and even that was via a dodgy VAR call.
However, there is still room for improvement for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The Reds’ defence is can still be rather porous at times. They have a knack of conceding first in games, and their fantastic attack has had to bail them out on more than one occasion.
Speaking on his podcast, Gary Neville has been discussing Liverpool’s defensive issues, and he says that the Merseyside club are currently missing Andrew Robertson from their backline.

The pundit shared his verdict on the £8m man.
“They have defended well, but I don’t think they’re an amazing defence, I don’t, but they have an amazing goalkeeper, an amazing centre-back, and a right-back who is something completely different, the other two are there, Robertson is a fantastic performer and I think he is missed,” Neville said.
Far from ideal
Liverpool have continued to be brilliant in Robertson’s absence, but it has to be said that their current left-back situation is far from ideal.
Kostas Tsimikas is also out injured, so Joe Gomez has had to fill in, and while he’s done a fine job, he’s nowhere near as dynamic as Robertson down that flank.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Robertson on the pitch, but we mustn’t forget just how brilliant he is when he’s in form and playing regular football for Liverpool.
Not only is the full-back one of the Reds’ best players, he’s one of their most important leaders, and when he returns to the team, Jurgen Klopp’s side could, once again, move up a gear, and that’s a scary prospect.
