'He is a player': Graeme Souness claims £47m Man United star would look 'fantastic' if he played for Liverpool

Graeme Souness has been speaking about Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes again and insisted he likes him purely as a footballer.

Fernandes has come in for criticism again this season on a number of occasions. His body language and constant berating of officials has seen some fans turn on him and with United struggling at times, those shouts have got louder.

However, Fernandes remains a key player for Erik ten Hag and in fairness, is often one of the United players to produce in big moments.

And speaking to TalkSPORT, former Liverpool man Graeme Souness has insisted the midfielder could shine for someone like Liverpool or Manchester City.

Souness says Bruno Fernandes would be great at Liverpool

Speaking on TalkSPORT about the £47m Manchester United captain, Souness admitted while his behaviours can look poor, Fernandes remains a top player.

“He is a player. I don’t think he’s a captain. In terms of quality if he played for Liverpool or if he played for City he would be a fantastic player. We would not be having this conversation. All this, shaking the head is majorly disappointing. He wouldn’t be losing as many games [at Liverpool or City] and he wouldn’t be so frustrated. But I accept his body language isn’t great at times and I was majorly disappointed of him in the 7-0 defeat at Anfield last year when he just stopped running back,” Souness said.

More to offer

There’s absolute no doubt that Bruno Fernandes is a player of high quality who can do the business when it matters.

However, the criticism of him has been right in the main and at times he has not looked like the leader United need him to be.

But Souness does make a good point about other clubs. If Fernandes did play for Liverpool or City, in a team where the discipline is already there and the football does the talking, he could shine.

Fernandes has so much to offer in the final third and clearly wants to win so much, hence his outbursts.

If United are to have any sort of success this season, then the Portugal star will be key.
