Alexis Mac Allister has had an up-and-down debut season at Liverpool.
The Argentine has had some brilliant moments in a red shirt, scoring some fantastic goals and putting in some truly world-class performances.
However, there’ve also been a few dodgy moments for Mac Allister.
The World Cup winner has had to play out of position at times, and there have been moments where he’s been exposed for his lack of pace and energy.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Paul Merson has been previewing this weekend’s Carabao Cup final, and he says that Curtis Jones’ fitness heading into this game will be a massive factor, claiming that the 22-year-old allows Mac Allister to play much better because he has the legs in this team.

Merson shared his verdict on the two Liverpool stars.
“If they are fit, especially Salah, and Curtis Jones – he is playing well and brings out the best in Alexis Mac Allister because he has the legs in the team – that would just swing it Liverpool’s way.
Perfect complement
Merson is right, Mac Allister is much better when Jones is alongside him.
Jones’s ability to cover ground, press and work his socks off allows Mac Allister that little bit more freedom in a creative sense, and that’s when he can flourish.
Unfortunately, Jones has missed periods of this season with injury and suspension, and that is when Mac Allister has struggled at times.
Liverpool’s midfield rebuild has been a huge success this season, but, at the same time, there are still a few composition issues when the squad depth is challenged.
Mac Allister is a fantastic player, but his role in this Liverpool team isn’t exactly set and his form very much depends on who he’s partnered with in that midfield.
