Liverpool weren’t at the races against Arsenal on Sunday.
The Reds were beaten 3-1, and, in all honesty, they barely laid a glove on the Gunners.
They were poor from minute one and it really felt as though something was lacking in that Liverpool team.
They were blunt up front, but there was also a lack of dynamism in the midfield.
Speaking on The Game Football Podcast, Tony Cascarino has been discussing Alexis Mac Allister and his performance against Arsenal, and he says that the Argentine just isn’t good enough as a number six, claiming that he gets caught on the ball way too often.

Cascarino shared his verdict on the £35m man.
“Then there’s Mac Allister as a number six. I don’t see him as a number six. I watched him in his early days at Brighton, he was way further forward, and way more effective. I don’t see him as a six, he gets caught way too much on the ball. Jorginho’s performance told you all you need to know about a holding midfield player, simple, move the ball, he doesn’t do that very well,” Cascarino said.
Risky
You simply can’t play in this way as a number six.
Mac Allister is a player who wants to get his foot on the ball, assess his options and do something creative, but if you dawdle when playing as a defensive midfielder, you’re only leaving your backline exposed.
To play as a number six, your first thought has to be to play safe, not to play expansively, and, unfortunately for Liverpool, Mac Allister isn’t that type of player.
Further forward, Mac Allister is incredible, but in that number six role, he’s nowhere near as effective as some of his peers, and that could cost Liverpool.
