France manager Didier Deschamps has confirmed that Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate has suffered a hamstring injury.

The Reds defender was named in the France squad for their games against Gibraltar and Greece in the coming days. However, an injury has forced him to withdraw, and he has been replaced by Chelsea’s Axel Disasi. Deschamps has now had his say on the extent of Liverpool star Konate’s injury.

France manager says Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate has suffered a hamstring injury

Ibrahima Konate is a crucial player for Liverpool and France, and the last thing either Jurgen Klopp or Didier Deschamps want is to see him injured.

However, unfortunately for all parties involved, Konate appears to have hurt his hamstring in the same area that troubled him earlier this season.

France would ideally have loved to have him available, but Konate’s injury has now forced him to withdraw, and he will spend the next two weeks in Liverpool under the watchful eyes of the club’s doctors.

In what is some good news, Deschamps has confirmed that Konate’s injury is not serious – he just didn’t want to take a risk by calling him up.

The France boss told RMC Sport: “He felt something in his hamstring.

“He had tests, but it’s not serious. He needs a bit of time to not take any risks. It’s an area where he already has an injury. It wasn’t in his interest or mine (to call him up). In the best of cases, he could have been training only Friday or Saturday.”

Konate should be fit for Liverpool’s next game

Hamstring injuries are always tricky to deal with, but Deschamps’ words should be music to Liverpool fans’ ears.

The France boss revealed that the best-case scenario is that Konate will be back in training this weekend. If that happens, he should be fit for the big game against Manchester City right after the international break.

We’re sure Klopp will be really pleased that Deschamps has allowed Konate to stay back in England so that the Liverpool medical staff can get him ready for the trip to the Etihad.

If Konate is fit enough to start, Liverpool have a much better chance of beating the champions.
