Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Curtis Jones was struggling with an injury issue in Liverpool’s 4-0 win against AFC Bournemouth.

The 22-year-old midfielder started at the Vitality Stadium as the Anfield side extended their lead at the top of the Premier League standings by five points with an emphatic with against Bournemouth.

However, Jones was forced to come off just past the hour mark, with concerns now being raised over whether the Liverpool academy graduate now has a new injury problem.

And speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Klopp revealed that Jones has been felling something for the past week, with the German manager taking the midfielder off to not risk further injury.

Klopp said when asked about why he took off Jones against Bournemouth: “We all hope and Curtis as well. He felt it a little bit.

“He had last week already a little bit, but then nothing was there. Curtis is a very experienced player and thought, ‘It’s 3-0, why should I risk it?’ I hope that’s exactly how it was.”

Liverpool can’t afford to lose Curtis Jones through injury again

Lauded by Klopp as ‘special’, Jones has really come into his own this season, with the 22-year-old showing a maturity that few players his age could ever exude.

Which is why Liverpool losing Jones now to injury would feel like such a massive blow, with the midfielder one of the Reds’ top-performing players in recent weeks.

Moreover, with the Anfield side currently low on depth across the entire squad, Jones spending some time on the treatment table could have some big consequences on the Premier League title race, which Liverpool are leading by some distance.
