‘He creates chances’: John Barnes says 24-year-old Liverpool player can do things Erling Haaland can’t

Ever since arriving at Liverpool, Darwin Nunez has been compared with Erling Haaland.

These two strikers were the two biggest signings of last summer, and with Liverpool and Man City being English football’s biggest rivals for so many years, comparisons were inevitable.

Unfortunately, Nunez hasn’t been able to live up to the standards set by Haaland over the past 12 months, but the Uruguayan has shown signs of improvement this season.

Speaking on the This is Anfield YouTube channel, John Barnes has been discussing Nunez and his performances, and he says that the 24-year-old is a great all-round player and that he can do things Erling Haaland can’t in terms of creativity.

Nunez can do things Haaland can’t

Barnes shared his verdict on the striker.

“He creates chances himself, if Darwin Nunez was a finisher like Robbie Fowler, he would be worth £150m and scoring 50 goals a year. He can do what Erling Haaland can’t and Erling Haaland can do what he can’t. He will score goals, he will work hard for the team and he chases back. I don’t see another centre-forward doing that. In terms of what he has and what he gives us he’s fine, he’s never going to be a Robbie Fowler,” Barnes said.

End product

Nunez is just as good as Haaland in certain attributes, but that end product just isn’t there in the same way with the Uruguayan.

Nunez is just as fast, just as strong and just as hard-working as Haaland, but that composure and ability to put the ball in the net in the final third just isn’t there in the same way it is with the Norwegian.

As Barnes says, if Nunez was clinical he’d be worth £150m, but, sadly that ability to find the net on a regular basis just isn’t there.
