Alexis Mac Allister has been speaking about Valentin Barco – a player Liverpool missed out on in January.

The Argentina international made the comments when chatting to TyC Sports.

So, what did Liverpool No.10 Alexis Mac Allister say about Valentin Barco? Let’s take a look…

Alexis Mac Allister comments on Valentin Barco

Well – according to the Daily Star – Liverpool wanted to sign the Argentina U23 international in January.

Barco eventually left Boca Juniors to join Brighton in a deal worth £8m.

Now, Mac Allister has spoken about his fellow countryman’s move to the Premier League.

The South American said: “It is not easy to go from Argentina directly to this league. I think he chose the best place to adapt quickly, especially because of his form, to play and because there are many young people.

“He has a great coaching staff, there are great people in the club. I spoke with him and I wished him the best. I am here for whatever he needs.”

Barco caught the eye of clubs in the Premier League – including Manchester City – after rising to stardom at Boca Juniors, where he made his way onto the Guardian’s coveted Next Generation list.

Liverpool better off waiting

While Liverpool could have signed Barco for £8m in January, the Reds are better off waiting to see how the South American fares at Brighton.

According to a story from Bolavip in Argentina, Manchester City withdrew interest amid concerns over the 19-year-old’s attitude.

The teenager had allegedly been involved in a number of clashes with management during his time at Boca Juniors.

Klopp is known to value such traits very highly – almost as much as a footballer’s technical ability – so it wouldn’t surprise us if Liverpool chose to do a bit more homework on Barco, rather than rush into a £8m agreement.

After all, even if the youngster does well at Brighton, Liverpool could still pinch him – just like the Reds did with Mac Allister last summer.
