191 Darwin Nunez looks as though he’s improving at Liverpool now.
The Uruguayan was back amongst the goals at the weekend, and while he’s not as prolific as many would like him to be, he is getting better and better.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Michael Owen has been discussing Nunez and his potential, and he says that he still has high hopes for the striker.
Owen says that with the right coaching on his finishing, Nunez could be a 30-goal-a-season striker, claiming that he still has a lot of belief that he can go to the very top.
Owen praises Nunez
The pundit spoke highly of the Liverpool striker.
“He still misses too many chances, I still think when he’s given time he’s not as good as he should be but when it’s all natural I think he comes into his own, let’s have a look at some of the chances he’s scored,” Owen said.
“You know, this is top class finishing from Nunez in that situation. This (the goal against Burnley) is one of my favourite finishes from Nunez and it gives me a lot of belief that he can go to the very top.”
“For him, he can really improve his finishing by repetition. I think it’s so important that the coaches work on him, because he can be the jewel in the crown for Liverpool. When Mo Salah isn’t there in a few years, he could fill the void. I don’t see anyone else scoring 30+ to fill the Salah void, but he could.”
Has potential
Michael Owen knows what he’s talking about when he’s discussing strikers and finishing, and if he says that Nunez has untapped potential, he’s probably right.
Owen knows more about finishing than most, and if he reckons that Nunez just needs some finetuning, it may not be long before the striker really catches fire.
Nunez could be an absolute star for Liverpool in the coming years, and we’re very excited to see what sort of level he can reach over the next few seasons.
Let’s hope that Liverpool’s coaching staff can figure out how to get Nunez to calm down in front of goal.
