Joe Cole has backed Luis Diaz to become an ‘all-time player’ for Liverpool in the coming years.

The Colombian started for the Reds against LASK last night, and he had a good game. He opened the scoring for Liverpool and helped them win 4-0. Cole was blown away by Diaz’s display and raved about him on TNT Sports.

Joe Cole backs Luis Diaz to become a Liverpool legend

There are already a few players in the current squad who are certain to go down as Liverpool legends.

Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker will all be talked about for years at Anfield, but there are others who can reach similar heights as well.

No, we are not talking about youngsters like Jarell Quansah, who ‘saved’ Liverpool last night. Luis Diaz is the topic of our conversation, and Joe Cole seems to be a big fan of him.

The pundit, while speaking on TNT Sports after the Champions League game last night, backed Diaz to follow in Mo Salah’s footsteps to become a Liverpool great in the coming years.

After Michael Owen raved about Salah, Cole said about Diaz: “He’s a fantastic player, wonderful signing for the club, and I think he’ll go on to be an all-time player at Liverpool as well if he carries on the way he’s going.

“I think he can be that good.”

Luis Diaz is far away from legendary status at Liverpool

Luis Diaz has been at Liverpool for almost two years now, and every Reds fan will agree that he is a spectacular footballer. Peter Crouch even branded him as a £100 million player.

The £56,000-a-week (Spotrac) Colombian has produced numerous magical moments for the Reds during his time at Anfield, and when he is in form, he is one of the most dangerous attackers in the Premier League.

However, Diaz’s numbers at Liverpool so far read 16 goals and nine assists in 63 games. Those stats will not make him a Reds legend.

That doesn’t mean things can’t change. Diaz still has at least five years at the highest level at Liverpool, and if he goes on to emulate someone like Salah, he could well prove Joe Cole right.
