'He almost gave up': BT Sport pundit slams Liverpool star for what he did in the 18th minute at Everton

Liverpool and Everton are currently playing out a feisty Merseyside derby at the moment in what has been a frantic 45 minutes at Goodison Park.

Everton have been the better side for much of the opening half and there seems to be a belief around Goodison that there is something in this game for their side. The Toffees have had the better of the chances while Liverpool haven’t quite hit full throttle either.

Of course, Liverpool have the squad and talent to produce a moment from nothing if they want to and in fairness, they had a great chance to take the lead when Darwin Nunez fluffed a headed chance in the 18th minute. In fact, such was the quality of the chance, BT Sport’s Jermaine Jenas felt that Nunez simply didn’t do enough to try and score.

“I think he should do better. Immediately when this ball comes in, I mean Trent does brilliantly to dig out a cross and the pressure from Gomez is great. But when he whips it in he’s watching it all the way,” Jenas said on BT comms.

“He’s got full view of it, all the way over Patterson’s head and right on his forehead. He’s got to head that back towards goal, show a bit more aggression. He almost gave up on it as it came over at the back post”.

TBR’s View: Nunez Keen To Impress For Liverpool

Darwin Nunez has been desperate to do well in that opening half of football and it’s coming through in his performance a bit as well.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Roberto Firmino on the pitch early in the second period. Nunez is a threat in the air but Liverpool need something a bit more cute at the top of the pitch if they’re going to dominate the second 45.
