'Got to do better': Didi Hamann claims £34m Liverpool player simply must improve next season

6 months ago 122

Dietmar Hamann has claimed that one Liverpool player must improve under Arne Slot next season.

This season has ended disappointingly for Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp was on for a quadruple in March.

The Reds have since exited the Europa League and FA Cup while falling short in the Premier League title race.

Despite a difficult end to the season, Klopp has built the foundations of a strong squad for Liverpool’s next manager, which looks set to be Arne Slot.

The likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai have all impressed since arriving last summer.

But former Liverpool man Dietmar Hamann is less convinced by one of Klopp’s recent signings.

Hamann says Ryan Gravenberch has to improve

Speaking to The Echo, Hamann claimed that Ryan Gravenberch needs to work on his game in the final third.

“He has to set up goals and he has to score goals, because there have been times at Liverpool this season where they have needed a goal from somewhere,” the Liverpool legend said.

“There have been times when he’s had a chance to make a name for himself but didn’t.

“It’s his first season, I hope he gets another season, but I think next season he has got to do better than he did this one.”

Gravenberch could shine under Slot at Liverpool

It hasn’t been an ideal debut campaign for Gravenberch after managing just 12 starts in the league all season.

The 21-year-old has displayed glimpses of his quality but has yet to produce consistent performances.

That is to be expected from a young player in his first full season in the Premier League and there have been more promising signs of late.

The Dutchman has recently been credited for his improvement in recent weeks but did drop to the bench in the 4-2 win over Tottenham last weekend.

Given Slot’s slightly different set-up to Klopp, Gravenberch is certainly a player who could thrive under his compatriot.

His technical quality on the ball makes him a good fit for the more advanced role in Slot’s midfield three. With that being said, he will have Szoboszlai to compete with for that specific role.
