Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher could be on his way out of Anfield this summer and Celtic could be waiting for him.

Celtic are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, with Brendan Rodgers keen to strengthen his pack in the summer if he gets the chance to do so. Indeed, with Celtic losing today at Hearts, pressure is building on the former Liverpool gaffer.

However, looking towards the summer and with set to retire, Celtic need a new number one and according to journalist Dean Jones, Liverpool stopper Kelleher is someone they will try for.

Speaking for GiveMeSport, Jones has explained that Celtic will definitely be considering Kelleher.

Celtic to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool

Speaking about Kelleher’s situation, Jones admitted that the stopper is open to leaving and that the Bhoys are one of the clubs who would take him.

“I’m told that Kelleher will be open-minded about the decision-making process that comes at the end of this season. I think that when you’re playing as a No.2 right now, and it’s under Jurgen Klopp, you understand the process that is taking you to that moment. You’ve got a boss that completely trusts you in the biggest circumstances, so it is easy to stick around because you know that you’re still respected and wanted,” Jones said.

“With Klopp leaving, I feel like it makes it really tough for Kelleher to hang around as a back-up goalkeeper and know what that means for him. I also feel like it might be the moment to go on and actually make himself a No.1 somewhere else. I think Celtic seems like a good option. There are obviously the Irish links, and he wants to become the Republic of Ireland’s No.1, so it seems like something that could open up. It’s certainly something that Celtic are going to try.”

Kelleher deserves a big move

The way Kelleher has stepped in for Alisson Becker in recent weeks shows just how good he is.

If a summer move does come about, then he more than deserves his chance of going somewhere and being a number one at a big club.

Of course, Liverpool could demand around £30m for Kelleher, which might scupper Celtic’s chances.

Lauded by Kenny Dalglish as a ‘fantastic‘ goalkeeper, a move to Celtic would certainly give the Irishman a chance to showcase his talents at the top level.
