144 Andy Townsend has heaped praise on Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate and labelled the defender a ‘giant of a man’.
Ibrahima Konate is enjoying an encouraging campaign with Liverpool and has formed an excellent partnership with Virgil van Dijk.
The 24-year-old has largely struggled with injuries since joining from Red Bull Leipzig back in the summer of 2021.
But he’s missed just three league games through injury this season and has looked the part after a run in Jurgen Klopp’s side of late.
Andy Townsend has been speaking about the Frenchman following Liverpool’s 4-0 win at Bournemouth on Sunday and lauded him as a ‘quick and powerful’ defender.
Townsend lauds Liverpool star Konate
Speaking on talkSPORT, Townsend praised Konate for his athleticism and feels it’s a huge asset for Liverpool defensively.
“Konate, I mean he’s a giant of a man,” the pundit said. “He’s so quick and powerful and again when Trent plays and he plays in that kind of midfield role, to the right of Konate there’s that big space.
“And yet he’s so athletic he can get in there and sort that out.”
We’re yet to see the very best of Konate in a Liverpool shirt and that will undoubtedly excite fans.
The France international is undoubtedly a top defender and based on recent form, he’s been up there with the best centre-backs in the league.
Of course, there are still question marks over Konate’s injury record but he’s improved massively on that front so far this season.
His pace and power are a huge asset for Klopp’s side, especially with Trent Alexander-Arnold drifting into midfield.
Konate is capable of covering that right-hand side while the Englishman is given the license to impact the game in the final third.
Klopp will certainly be hopeful that Konate is over the worst of it when it comes to injuries as the Frenchman and Van Dijk are capable of forming a formidable partnership.
