'Forget that one': There is no chance that 26-year-old Liverpool player joins Tottenham this month - journalist

Tottenham are on the hunt for a new centre-back signing.

The north London club’s lack of depth in that position has been exposed recently due to a recent injury crisis and new additions are needed.

One player who has been linked with a move to Tottenham as of late is Joe Gomez, with The Mail naming him as a player Spurs admire.

However, while Spurs may be admirers of Gomez, it doesn’t sound as though this deal is viable.

Indeed, speaking on Last Word on Spurs, Matt Law has been discussing this rumour, and he’s said that we can write off the idea of Gomez joining Tottenham as he’s proving to be a very important player for Liverpool right now.

Gomez not joining

Law spoke about the centre-back situation.

“Joe Gomez is playing for Liverpool right now, so we can forget that one. Marc Guehi is not moving in January, absolutely no chance, he will move in the summer I’m fairly certain he will move in the summer, but there are plenty of clubs who would have a go if they could get Marc Guehi for a competitive price,” Law said.

No chance

Law is right, there’s no way Liverpool let Gomez go at the moment.

The 26-year-old is a vital depth option at left-back, right-back and centre-half.

He’s been getting regular games as of late with the Reds, and we can’t see Gomez leaving Anfield anytime soon, especially with Joel Matip ruled out with injury until the end of the season.

Tottenham will have to look elsewhere for centre-back reinforcements, and it looks as though they may well have found their man in the shape of Radu Dragusin who is said to be closing in on a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming days.

As for Gomez, his future still appears to be on Merseyside.
