Virgil van Dijk has admitted that he was not at his best last season, with Liverpool finishing outside the top-four in the Premier League.
The Reds endured a difficult campaign having come some close to quadruple the year before, with Van Dijk’s dip in form one of the key reasons behind Liverpool’s slump in the Premier League and in Europe.
However, the 32-year-old defender and Liverpool have turned a corner this season, with Liverpool now the favourites to win the Premier League, with Van Dijk now back to his best.

“I fully admit that. But it wasn’t that bad as everyone was making out how it was. For me, it was a case of just keeping my head down and not listening to the noise around me and just playing.
“I’m glad I did and pre-season on, even from last year, I think after we changed the system a little bit and Trent played a little bit more inside it went very well. I feel fine and want to achieve a lot of things as captain of this football club.”
Virgil van Dijk has been immense for Liverpool this season

And given the places the defender has been in recent years, it’s almost astonishing to think how quickly Van Dijk has managed to regain his place as one of the best centre-backs in world football.
Indeed, Liverpool would not be where they are this season without Van Dijk, and the Dutchman is enjoying some of his best performances to date with the Reds this campagin.
