Jesse Marsch has heaped praise on Taiwo Awoniyi – who Liverpool sold for a very small fee.
The 50-year-old made the comments when speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.
So, what did Jesse Marsch say about Taiwo Awoniyi? Let’s take a look…
Jesse Marsch hails Taiwo Awoniyi
Well, the man from Wisconsin spoke very highly about the Nigeria international when analysing his goal against West Ham alongside Jamie Carragher and David Jones.
Marsch said: “Good player. Technically very good, strong, fast, great touch.”
Sky Sports also displayed a graphic showing that Awoniyi has actually been the most clinical striker in the entire Premier League since the start of the 2022/23 campaign.
The Nottingham Forest No.9 converts 28.6% of his chances – which is actually more than Erling Haaland finishes off.

However, the fact Liverpool could only negotiate a fee of £6.5m for the man from Ilorin is very underwhelming – he is arguably a £40m striker nowadays.
Liverpool backed into a corner with Taiwo Awoniyi
In fairness to Liverpool, it was not like Awoniyi found himself discarded without any thought.
The Nigerian actually struggled to obtain a work permit from the UK Home Office for the majority of his time at Anfield.
Awoniyi was eventually granted permission to play in England with Liverpool, although the 26-year-old had already decided to join Union Berlin on a permanent basis after spending the 2020/21 campaign on loan with the Bundesliga outfit.

At that point they saw me as a boy who had fully developed throughout those years and they applied for a work permit for me and it was granted.
“The moment I was granted the work permit it was a long discussion of whether to go on loan again with Union Berlin and then come back, or they were ready to buy me as well. It was a discussion with my agent and I said instead of going on loan again I said thank you for everything you’d done for me, I decided to sign for Union Berlin and say goodbye to Liverpool.”
Hopefully, Liverpool negotiated a large sell on fee when offloading Awoniyi, as a big move – possibly to Chelsea – could happen in the near future.
