Liverpool are currently in the process of bringing Fabio Carvalho back to Anfield, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer insider says the Reds are “not happy” with how “insufficient” game time the 21-year-old has received at RB Leipzig.

Carvalho joined Liverpool in 2022 after a breakthrough season during Fulham’s Championship promotion campaign.

In his maiden season, the winger made 21 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, but clocked up just 638 minutes of game time.

Carvalho opted to move to Leipzig this season in pursuit of more regular playing time, but he hasn’t had much luck on that front.

He has made 13 appearances, but has only started once in the Bundesliga and once in the Champions League. This came on Wednesday night after they had already qualified for the last 16.

With all that in mind, Romano wrote on X to say Liverpool are looking to bring an end to Carvalho’s loan stint at Leipzig.

🚨 EXCL: Liverpool have opened talks with RB Leipzig to bring Fabio Carvalho back in January due to insufficient game time.

Liverpool talent Fabio Carvalho set to reassess his future

It’s a shame that Carvalho’s career hasn’t really got going either at Liverpool or at Leipzig just yet.

Sometimes it can take a little while for a player to really get up to speed with life at a club like Liverpool.

A loan move to another top club was a good shout for sure, but sadly things haven’t worked out at the Red Bull Arena.

It’s good to hear that Liverpool are looking to bring Carvalho back. The likelihood is they’ll look at him in training during January.

Then, while the transfer window is open, Jurgen Klopp, the player and his camp can decide what action to take next.

It would be good to see Carvalho decide to try his luck again in the first team, but if he can go out on loan to another good club where game time is all-but guaranteed, that’s also a good option.
